Interesting response. As an admitted outsider (seperated brother/nice heretic) I am interested in understanding the issues from each perspective and the tension between the factions. That's why I read these threads.

Your comment, "The reformation (via endless permutations and combinations and thousands of denominations) seems to have had a shelf life which will not far exceed 500 years and is now hanging on by its evangelical and pentecostal manifestations as the mainline evaporates." picturing us as hanging on I find fascinating.

When I applied for seminary in the 1970's the school I attended had 400 admitted into the class and turned down over 800 other applicants. This was for their 4 year Masters program. Over the past 75 years that one seminary has made a huge impact in this country and throughout the world. Other kindred spirit, evangelical seminaries are thriving. It is the schools where liberalism has become entrenched where they can hardly keep their doors open.

People are hungry to be taught the Word of God and we'll be there preaching, teaching and leading Bible studies in neighborhoods.

Like it or not, Stevej, this appelation from the esteemed and pugilistic BlackElk will be the beginning of your journey to Roman Catholicism.

If you can make "nice heretic" by HIS standards, your catechization into the Faith should be a cakewalk.
