The Bible documents divisions in the body of believers and differences of doctrinal opinion throughout the epistles. They weren't considered "protestants" because no one had yet claimed a monopoly on true Christian faith.

Monopoly?
I've heard that word used before in relation to the Catholic church. What makes you use it? Just because we haven't split off from the original tradition?
