I tried it at a cathedral in Bratislava, Slovakia. Worthwhile. Plus easier to understand with my Latin education than Slovak.

<> Prior to the revision of the 1962 Roman Missal, there were MANY stolid and banal celebrations of the old rite. All that is now forgotten. I used to go Msgr. Nolan's Mass because he could say it in less than 30 mins, including sermon. All those abuses are forgottten and those attracted to the 1962 Roman Missal are being introduced to it by priests who are extremely circumspect in their Rubrical obedience. Many scholas are being formed with an attentive seriousness. My old Choir, excepting Holy Days, was terse and perfunctory. The past is looking better and beter - especially for those that never experienced it<>
However, prior to that, as the Pope noted, folks were either non attentive, praying the Rosary, putting in their time, priests were racing through the Mass, etc. All that is now forgotten and the phrase "The most beautiful thing this side of heaven" makes one envision a pristine past that never existed.
Look, were it true that everything within the old rite was copacetic, the Infallible Vatican Two Ecumenical Council would not have been led by the Holy Spirit to undertake a revision of the Liturgy.
And if those who feel an attachment to the old liturgy had stayed and applied their energies to the normative Mass, there would be FAR fewer abuses those very same folks routinely complain about.<>
