Bump for Bruskewitz !

Isn't he about the only Bishop who still bothers with excommunication?

Until he ackowledges that the novus ordo mass is a Protestant, man-centered, feel-good, feminist, circus act, the problem won't go away.

Why should he do such a foolish thing? Your profile gives no clue as to your location. It's entirely possible you've never seen the Novus Ordo Mass. It's entirely possible that you've only seen grotesque abuses thereof. IOW, it's possible that you only know what the SSPX propaganda tells you. If that's the case, you should get properly informed. My parish doesn't engage in the circus act stuff you rightly condemn. Nor does the other parish (close to my office) where I assist daily Mass. And in my travels I've seen many places outside northern Virginia where the Novus Ordo Mass is said properly. I've also seen places where the Mass was so desecrated I wasn't sure if it was even valid. And one fine Sunday, I accidentally wandered into an SSPX chapel; seldom have I seen such a collection of ignorant, arrogant, self-righteous little twerps.

My novus ordo parish is the absolute epitome of reverence AND active participation AND support of the entire magisterial teachigns of the Church.

I went to tridentine Mass a month ago and it was tragicly done - much like many of the novus ordo Masses you may have encountered. That a Mass is poorly done is not indicative of its heterodoxy. Tridentine and Novus orod can be done poorly.

Thanks for the backup. I don';t know where Mr. McDuell hangs out, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a good, orthodox "Novus Ordo Parish" within visiting range of him. If he's in the Dreadful Diocese of Richmond, it could be ugly, though.

Other than the one parish where I attend the Tridentine Mass, I have never been to any other Tridentine Mass and can't imagine what could go wrong unless innovations are taking place as occurs in some of the Novus Ordo Masses. Would you mind giving a few details of your experience?

The Superior General of the Society of St. Pius X has acknowledged the N.O. Mass as valid. It is the abuses that must be fought, not the legitimate celebration of the Sacrifice at Calvary. If the form, matter and intent of a validly consecrated priest is present, the Miracle of the Eucharist takes place, regardless of which of the over 20 Rites are used.

For those who claim the SSPX is schismatic, let me quote from Cardinal Castrillon:

"... based on the fact that your Fraternity certainly was not spreading any heretical doctrine and did not maintain schismatic attitudes,..."

Letter of Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos to Mgr. Fellay
(English translation by Mr. Ken Jones, Una Voce St. Louis)
The Vatican, April 5, 2002

I am curious as to how you discerned that by simply attending a SSPX Mass; or was it something else you wandered upon?

>Bruskewitz has tried to excommunicate the members of several groups to include the faithful who attend the Masses offered by priests of the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX). In doing so, he has attacked the group that has done more than any other within the Church to preserve the Faith.<

SSPX is IN the Church? I thought there were meetings periodically between the Vatican and this group to bring them back into the Church?

I just posted a link to a 27 page letter from the President of the Commission charged with that task to the Superior General. They (the SSPX) are, depending on your views, either just inside or just outside the Church, but not heretical nor schismatic according to the Cardinal President). It can be argued until the cows come home. The letter outlines (from the perspective of the Vatican) the issues remaining. The Vatican has essentailly given them an offer too good to refuse. It will be fascinating to see how the end game resolves itself. Somewhere there is an interview with the SG that gives his perspective. I don't recall if it is posted here, but in that he (Bp. Fellay) clearly acknowledges the Petrine authority, the validity of the New Mass, the validity of Vatican II as well as laying out the real barriers some in the Curia have erected against reconcilliation. We live in interesting times.

pointing out that one of the presenters - Margaret Steinfels - is an open dissenter to church doctrine on sexual matters.

The fact that she was a presenter at the conference was just a big fat poke in the eye to faithful Catholics everywhere.

Buskewitz in completely right. This Catholic Church must decide where it stands on the issue of sexual morality - not just in terms of what is stated in the Catechism (and the Bible), but in terms of what it is going to teach the world's youth. Let's have it - homosexual activity - condoned? If the Church does that, it will have abandoned scripture and God's will. But then stop condoning it IN THE PRIESTHOOD. Premarital sex? Sinful - but too cowardly to actual say so to any young adult? Contraception? THe Church is torn in this country between faithfulness to God and His wishes and to the wishes of dissenters, who would like to tear down any roadblock on the path to total sexual abandonment. Our Church is being led by doctrinal cowards, and its priesthood is filled with unrepentant sexual miscreants.
