political means to enforce the teaching of its own versions of such doctrines in public schools

Actually, you've verbalized one of the more offensive things about the anti-evolution crowd: they have been unable to convince normal scientists that there's something horribly, fundamentally wrong with natural selection and muatation theory, so they're reduced to convincing educrats and lawyer/politicians on school boards.

I don't really see much difference between the ID/creationists and the Afrocentrists who insist that theories (eg all Greek wisdom was really African) which no serious scholar considers true, be taught in schools.

The main difference is that they are both Post-Modern-Deconstructionists. Wait, that's the answer to a riddle. Oh, well.

The American people are within their rights to tell scientists that they're not going to promulgate an atheistic ideological doctrine in the name of science in public schools at public expense. If scientists are too thick to see the light on this one, then letting them feel the heat is perfectly legitimate.

That's good. Very good.

Nonsense. Scientists do not give beans about evolution. The only outspoken proponents of evolution are not scientists at all but a bunch of paleontologists who prostitute themselves on a daily basis before the altar of evolution. They have to do that because their jobs depend on it. Aside from that, scientists totally ignore evolution that is why modern biology is based on the pillars that struck holes at the heart of evolution: Mendelian genetics, DNA, and Genome expression.
