The problem that I see with the orthodox and conservative critics of AmChurch is that they are divided up into factions which do not necessarily work well together in an organized and uniform manner. You have the Traditionalists, the Opus Dei types, Catholics United for the Faith, the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars, the readers of
Crisis, First Things, The Wanderer, National Catholic Register, The New Oxford Review, and Inside the Vatican, the LCs, ETWN, pro-life activists, Adoremus, and so on. There doesn't seem to be one organization which puts together an organized, united protest and reasonable alternative to the lunacies of the USCCB and its ilk. Hence, you have Scott Appleby of Notre Dame addressing the bishops rather than Richard Neuhaus, Benedict Groeschel, Joseph Fessio, and so on. The "face" of American Catholicism is being defined in the media by Archbishop Flynn and the Scott Appleby types.
There should be a panel discussion composed of people like George Rutler, Richard Neuhaus, Benedict Groeschel, George Weigel, Deal Hudson, Ralph McInerny, James Hitchcock, et al. right there in Dallas NOW countering all the BS. In fact, Bill O'Reilly could host such a full-hour discussion on "The Factor" on FOX if he wanted to offer something really constructive.

Ask HowlinlyMind-Bending Absurdity, who pinged me that Steven Brady was on CNN! I ran for the remote, but I think I missed the first part. (I also had to run for the cable guide; I couldn't remember what CNN's number is.) And after that, the hostess rather let that awful woman run off at the mouth, and took too many comments from that vacant-eyed, drooling audience, so Brady didn't get to say much more.
Any appearance, though, is good. Someone on one thread was mentioning what Dr. Laura went through because of the gay lobby, not to mention the Boy Scouts. Getting this message out at all is not going to be easy.

Good idea.
CNN had that repulsive lesbian apologist from Dignity USA on with Brady. She hogged the mic.

She is ticked off that the Cardinals and Bishops do not appear to be dealing with the homosexuals in the priesthood and she is so ticked off that she is considering taking her family to a Marionite Rite(sp) Church. Natch she spelled "Marionite" correctly! Good for her!! I imagine Arroyo bobbed his head up and down a few times and asked Fr. Gould if he wanted to address her message. Fr. Gould is DEFINITELY on the side of preventing homosexuals from entering the priesthood. In my parish, the pastor and associate are both gay. We now have a 1st year seminarian (from Washington) staying with them. The seminarian is decidedly straight!!! Please keep him in your prayers (that he not give up his calling). Physically, he could easily overpower either one ... in fact, one of them "chided" the parishioners last week when he introduced the seminarian. Said they would need more food supplies to feed they guy. It was a tasteless remark since the seminarian is slim with strong arms from pumping iron, I guess.

but maybe the current outrage should be channelled into something closer to activism. Go for it.

Great. Bishops who have become lapdogs of the Democratic Party are about to discover that the laity can do politics better than they can.

I'm afraid these visits will be just for show. Sorry to say, I don't trust the Vatican on this any more than the the USCCB.

Liberals know how to assemble coalitions; why should we be incapable of the same thing? Besides, taking a hard line on the integrity of the priesthood isn't exactly a divisive fringe issue, at least among conservatives. True, not everybody is cut out for taking it to the streets, ACT-up type stunts, or even civil disobediance. But the only way to determine the "market-clearing price" is to open a marketplace.
Are you an Opus Dei type or a New Oxford review type? Which am I -- or any of the other Catholics on this thread? Do we even care? Regardless of our small differences, there seems to be a working consensus around here about what's wrong, and what needs to be done. And for every one of us, there are thousands more.
I'm going to give this some serious thought.

I really wish the cable news people (including Fox) would give up running the crawl if they have to and show people's name and affiliation the whole time they're talking.

ConSpiratio has the potential to be more than just a talking-shop.
This is good news. Hope to discuss at length when not distracted by work : )

Roman Catholic Faithful is going to be on MSNBC in a little bit. They're going to talk about that Gay Priest's Web page that RCF has a copy of on their web-page

eastsider seems motivated to organize a counter rally/conference in September...that would provide enough time to get the word out via various channels.

To: FBDinNJ
Exactly. What a bunch of depraved perverts. How could any bishop allow such creeps in the sanctuary?
To: HowlinglyMind-BendingAbsurdity
Yeah agreed. I guess I should warn everyone else that they probably shouldn't go to that link unless they want to be thoroughly disgusted.
