I certainly hope they do "surprise" inspections to catch them with their pants down ...

It is really going to become necessary for conservative and orthodox Catholics to stage their own conferences coinciding with the time and location of USCCB events, issuing a critical commentary on initiatives by the wacky U.S. bishops.
Take your pick.

She's not asking much useful, either, of course.

Rita drives me nuts with her head twitch. LOL! And yes, she never has much useful to ask.

Fox has a couple on named Patterson, parents of a man who was molested as a boy in high school (?). In his twenties, he developed psychological problems, at 28, found beating his head against the floor; at 29 he killed himself (Wichita diocese). Left a note that he'd always tried to please God, but couldn't measure up.

The Pattersons recently heard of another molested young man who killed himself (I think they said a couple of weeks ago) after 9 years of fighting with the Wichita diocese.

Church's teaching on sex the problem?

Yeah ... that's the ticket. Let's all masturbate our urges into a more healthy lifestyle.

Glad to see his mention BSA as indication it's not the Church's problem, per se.

My cousin's son killed himself: age 24

He was molested by a priest at 13. Went through all the typical traumas.

It would be good for things like the Cardinal Newman Society, the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars, Catholics United for the Faith, Ignatius Press, even the Wanderer Forum Foundation, to conduct panel discussions in the same hotel or location as the USCCB discussions with a focus on the actual proposals. I've been watching this psychological panel on abuse which is on EWTN right now. The transcripts of these, along with the bishops' discussions, need to be reviewed and rebutted when necessary point by point.

There needs to be some public and formal deliberative procedure to counter things like when Archbishop Flynn appeared on Nightline and said he doubted the topic of homosexual priests would even "come up" at the Dallas conference. Every Catholic in the country ought to be calling for Flynn's removal from leading this commission on abuse.

I am so sorry -- what a heartbreak for your cousin and the rest of your family! "Sorrow that lies too deep for any cure but the Cross --"

Did you have difficulty keeping your faith after that? Did your cousin?

LOL. These comments bare repeating. Do ya think they might get the message if this would happen?

Sorry -- I didn't mean to be too personal. But sudden death of someone close is so awful a blow -- I can't imagine how awful it is to have a suicide in the family.

Fr. Gould, Dr. Fitzgibbons, and Raymond Arroyo are actually doing a fairly good job on EWTN at critiquing the "therapies" at St. Luke's Institute, the treatment center for pedophile priests. They are doing a better job than what I have seen from the bishops. At least they can say the "h" word.

I was OK with my faith. But my cousin died 1 year after her son committed suicide. She went to her death a bitter and broken woman. It caused great grief in her immediate family. My uncle no longer will enter a Church. Neither will her two brothers. There was hush money given to the boy in exchange for his and his family's silence. Most of the money, for the first year, was used for therapy but then it actually worked against the boy. He became very angry and confused and self-absorbed but with a low self-esteem. This led to abnormal materialism (he had all this money coming in) and to drug abuse. He became violent at times and then fell into deep depression just before he committed suicide.

So I turn on the radio at 2:57 and Bill O'Reilly is on and says "....which I believe is going to break in a day or two, and while we are on the subject of the Catholic Church, I think they did the right thing regarding John Gotti...." ------- so I missed the first part of his sentence, but it sure sounded to me like he had been talking about the "outed Cardinal" story. Anyone hear the whole thing?
