The gospel has a name: the gospel of the kingdom of God!
The gospel can be expressed in 3 words: Repent and Believe!
Now, if you will earnestly study what that means, then whether you are Arminian or Calvinist, you can preach the TRUE gospel.
I can hang with you on the "Repent and Believe" part. Ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins, and believe that He has. Goes right along with John 3:16.
But I'll admit it Woody, you threw me with the "of the kingdom of God" part.
Now, first let me state that after you posted that, I had to go back and re-read your "challenge" to see that you said "name" the gospel, not "share" the gospel. I think if we were to go back far enough (and to other threads) that we'd find I might be right that you first said "share" or "tell" the gospel in 5 words. BUT, I'm not going to take the time to go back, so I'll give you the benefit of my doubt and say, "okay" you said "name."
I thought of five different words from Jesus. For extra credit you can tell me what I thought you would say and why.
But Woody, seriously now. All this grandstanding over the fact that we haven't said "of the kingdom of God?" Because we haven't said that we don't know the gospel?
Do a bit of a google search Woody, you'll find that reference (or something very close) on the pages for the LDS, the JWs and the Adventists. Are you saying they can "name the gospel?" I don't think so.
And Woody, are you KJV only? Can the people that read these translations not "name the gospel?"
After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. Mark 1:14 NIV
Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, NASB
Later on, after John was arrested by Herod Antipas, Jesus went to Galilee to preach God's Good News. NLT
Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God RSV
And after the delivering up of John, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of the reign of God, YLT
Your "test" was silly Woody. And you know it.
