Interesting analogy. I wonder what the frequency of Free Masonry was among the Calvinist population of our founding fathers. Zennybuddy know?
Within the last 6 weeks, we have preached messages on the evils of both Free Masonary and Mormonism. When was the last time your church did that?
The problem is that you non-Calvinist are stuck in your pride and really are unwilling to learn anything from a Calvinist. Before you accuse me of the following, remember that I go to a non-Calvinist church and I am currently reading a book by a Methodist-Episcopalian who happens to be the hero of a few of you Arminians.
I don't know about the Puritans. But from those who have told us that "Calvinists built America," we would have to assume that even the Anglicans in Virginia (who, by the way, were the ones smart enough to write everything down for the New Englanders) were also Calvinist, based on the 39 Articles.
I believe George Washington considered himself an Anglican (therefore Calvinist) but I will admit I could be wrong. But we do know that Washington was a Free Mason (big time). And we'd have to assume that, if he was elected President, he didn't go to parties alone.
I do not believe Free Masonry is neither Calvinist or a Arminian problem, it is a Christian one!
Ofcourse, what is little known is that the Elect do have a secret handshake :>)
