Yes there is a need for the lost to be "judged..as every man must know why he deserves hell Doug

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Calvinistic thought teach that those who are the elect and those who are not are predestined to be that way and nothing changes that? Why would there have to be any kind of judgment and why would it need to be explained?

Rev 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

This verse occurs at Christ’s second coming just before the first resurrection. Nobody has yet received any reward. It’s also interesting that John differentiates between saints, prophets and servants. He also differentiates between these and others who fear his name, great and small. Calvinistic belief would say that each one of these are descriptions of the same people I take it. But that doesn’t seem evident from the verse.

The Book of life is opened for the reward of the Saints..a judgement of works unto reward..not damnation

The saints, the elect, have already received their reward long before the book of life is opened. They have already received immortal bodies at the 2nd coming of Christ. They were already made kings and priests in the millennial kingdom.

Doug I do not have much of an interest in the end times as a study..but there is no scripture to indicate that there will be salvation based on works for anyone.Only the elect written in the Lambs book will be at that celebration!

That’s a pity because it’s an interesting subject. I also don’t believe that a salvation based on works is evidenced in the bible. I believe that at the great white throne judgment after the millennium that all are taught the truth from the books of the bible and are judged on whether or not they now accept the truth.

2Jo 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into [your] house, neither bid him God speed:

2Jo 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

And what is the doctrine of Christ?

2Jo 1:5 And now I beseech you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
2Jo 1:6 And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, as you heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

yep they are all the elect..just as each of my children are called by different names and have different jobs and rolls..

Doug every man does just as he wills...and he will have to stand before God for his actions...Every man will understand that no one was sent to hell that did not choose to be there
Rom 2:6Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

And there will be additional rewards for the saints..scripture speaks of crowns that we will throw at His feet..
Rev 4:10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Now we do not know or understand exactly what those "rewards " will be.
Rev 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward [is] with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

doug..remember that the letters were addressed to the elect (the church)..they are doctrinal in nature 2Jo 1:8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
