Actually, he died in 1968.

Should have read early 1900's. Thanks for the correction.

Although I disagree with Barth's general assessment, I think his work with paradox can be helpful, even if his conclusion is wrong.

I'm gonna correct you one more time, not (just) because I'm a bit obsessive compulsive, but because there's an important distinction in the time frame in question.

Barth's early theology was liberal in the post-modern sense. After the World Wars and the rise of the Nazi's and the German pastors' acceptance of that philosophy, he rejected his liberalism and embraced (for the most part) orthodoxy. He was actively writing (as well as listening to Mozart) until his death.
