What gets me is that if the bible were properly studied and understood, instead of arguing over the doctrine of election, people would be jumping through the streets for joy at what it really means, corporately and individually for the true believer.

For before the foundation of the world, God chose the church to Himself in Christ.(Eph.1:4)How this is possible and how one is to conceive of it, are seen from the words, "in Christ". The church, though still on earth, has in Christ received a place in heaven(Eph.2:6)and thus in Christ participates in the heavenly blessings. (Eph.1:3)so-- and Paul preaches so-- it was already united with the pre-existent Christ and thus chosen by God in Him.

The inclusion of the church in Christ, its corporate existence in Him, Paul traces back to this pre-existence. As its life is hid in God with the Exalted One, (Col.3:3) so its election is in Him from before the foundation of the world. Even there the the church's being in Christ can be spoken of, and thus its election in him in whom God purposed His good pleasure, indeed who himself can be God's "Foreknown" before the foundation of the world. (1 Peter 1:20)
