Catholic Caucus: Patron
5 April A.D. 2002 | father_elijah

The Catholic Caucus of Freepers are in need of our own patron saint. We seem to be quickly developing into something of an apostolate of our own. So I think we should take time to post our ideas about who our patron saint(s) should be for our work here on FreeRepublic.

You can learn a lot, I have. Just kind of squint your eyes to get past the mean posts and really read the uplifting and educational ones. Welcome aboard and God bless you.

I like your name.

Thank you for the background you provide. It is indeed a very scary time and prayer is the only and the most powerful thing we can do. I did offer up Mass today for your intentions and in all my prayer I do the same.

Also, the Surprised by Truth series have real-life conversion stories. Hahn is great reading and watching . We watched one of his videos at the beginning of RCIA and was most definitely enlightening.

pro-life, this one's for you. I did a Google search and came up with some websites that may be of interest to you. The first one is the Scott Hahn Conversion Story This is the story of Dr. Hahn's conversion from Protestant minister to Catholicism. It is very interesting and deals with many questions Protestants have regarding the Catholic faith. The homepage for this story is the Coming Home Network. It is a website and a program on EWTN for Protestant ministers and laymen returning home to the Catholic Church.

Second, I found an online bookstore for anyone interested in purchasing any of Dr. Hahn's many books or videos St. Gabriel's Online Bookstore. I'm sure there are others in addition to Amazon where Dr. Hahn's books are also sold. After looking over some of them I think I'm going to buy some. He has a couple designed for Catholics to answer Protestant questions and misrepresentations of Scripture.

Finally, here is Scott Hahn's website. He and his wife Kimberly travel around the US to speak and may be coming to an area near you.

This man is an impressive soldier for Christ and defender of the Faith.

Okay, my first and third links don't work. It's my first attempt, be patient. I'll type them out. www.chnetwork.org/scottconv.htm is the Scott Hahn conversion story. www.stgabriel.com/hahnfrm.html is the link to the bookstore page.

Allow me to quote St. John Chrysostom

Thank you for the quote, and for the icon earlier, of this wonderful man. As an Orthodox Christian, every Sunday I participate in the celebration of the Liturgy he created.

General question - What is the purpose of the "Catholic Caucus"? Is it for general discussion of Catholic spirituality, or is it more targeted to discussing how to address Catholic current events? In either case, is Orthodox participation welcome, or should I stick to the more "ecumenical" threads? Thanks, and Christ Bless!

Regarding the purpose of the Catholic Caucus, I asked a similar question earlier in the thread. In post #36 part of history_matters' reply was, "(1)to fend off false attacks on the Catholic Church, (2) to support each other during a time of crisis and to continue to be a clear Catholic voice in any conservaitve discussion, (3)and to present the truth about the Lord and Holy Mother Church without reservation and with courage"

Wordsmith, you and your fellow Orthodox (anyone really) are always welcome on our threads. These threads are for community, not exclusivity. God bless you.
