My interpretation of it is this:
It is a hypothetical stating that if one who has been saved, could then lose his salvation, then what good was the sacrifice of Jesus in the first place, if even his death could not reconcile man to God. If His sacrifice was not sufficient to save you when you first excepted Him, than how it could be sufficient when you are "re-saved".
