Cinco de Mayo being accepted as an American holiday is a sign that as repulsive as "Being Irish for a day" would have sounded 100 years ago, we are cool with the idea now. OK, let's be Mexican for a day and celebrate.
As long as Juneteenth remains a day for earnest and serious reflection (and the inevitable calls for recrimination and renumeration) America will largely ignore it. Now turn it into a real party and we'll happily celebrate the end of slavery.
