It started with the simple idea that no matter what the person has done, a priest is a priest. No man is worthy.
From there it became a discussion of who is the judge of a man's faith and if we can know infallibly from external evidence only.

I would have to agree with your process of ordination which I don't. In the NT there are spiritual offices. Apostles, prophets, pastors etc. If they quit for some reason we don't continue to refer to them with these titles. They're not supposed to be given these titles for who they are but for what they are doing.
