It is simply a recognition that Mary played a crucial role in bringing Jesus to the earth. And since she did, she is a participant in the salvation of each person that Jesus saves.

We had a long sermon a year or so ago about how "without Esther, there is no Easter". That she played a critical role in salvation history and was thus a participant in your salvation.
