Ah, yes, Protestants pick and chose which books to listen to and which to not. Like Maccabees, Sirach. Yes, the father of Protestantism, Luther, refused to accept Maccabees because it proved the worth of praying to the dead, those who have risen. Read 2Maccabees.

Actually, The Jews had domain over the oracles of God. So you might try playing that spiel elsewhere. The additions to the OT cannon happened after Christ. This is like putting a stripe job on a car after it's been sent to the car crusher. Never mind who did it (no authority). Then there is the track record of the people involved. So, yes, we do pick and choose what books to listen to because we have brains enough to be responsible and not be sold a bill of goods.. and enough to follow what the Apostles taught us in that regard. That should not be surprising to see but rather welcome. I guess it has something to do with the fact that by and large, Christians are much more aware of what's in their Bibles than Catholics are because Christians read them. I've read 2Macabees. It is of no use. I prefer scripture to fiction. And the worth of praying to the dead is dealt with in the Jewish Cannon long before Macabees came along. The odd thing is that the jews know this and Catholics are rather clueless about it. Could it be because the catholics didn't bother reading the OT before trying to ammend it though they had no authority to so do? That would be my guess. Ecclesiastes 9 says all that needs to be said; but, the entire ot is filled with bans on communication with the dead in all it's forms from spiritism to necromancy. Would kinda help to know these things before deciding to do something that runs both against scripture and God - wouldn't it. That is if you are truly intending to follow Christ instead of just be a member of a big club and play at religion. You might consider these things.

Jews, who pray for the dead, do not accept Maccabees as inspired, either. We read them as history, not scripture.
