To us the Scriptures ARE tradition. Anyway, we are, after all, all looking backward at the events described in Scripture,and looking at them through the prisms of different "traditions."If one ignores or minimizes the infancy narratives in Matthew and Luke, then one has the modern Baptist Mary--a Mary who fits the Baptist tradition. If one puts a great deal of stress on them, the first two chapters of Luke and--I must add--the Cana story and the story of Mary at the Cross, then one has something like the Catholic Mary.

There is only one Mary, but Catholics, like I pray to her so that she will pray for us and the sins of the world to the Lord our God. Although I believe in the latter, tempoary virgin or ever virgin, she is available for strong prayers.
