As a matter of fact the early 5th century was a time when Christians began to persecute both Jews and pagans. Not much accomodation at all. Of course I am talking about serious Christians. There were many pagans--and Jews-- who became fake Christinas just to be on the winning side. Others assimilated into the new Christian order while retaining many pagan/Jewish attitudes. But the diehards were simply ground into powder.
