The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Sounds to me like he understands it all too well.

Preaching to the choir does sound like that.

You never asked me a question before I posted those scriptures.

Scriptures which bear no relation to the simple questions I have asked.

Can no person who has faith ever lose control and murder, or steal, or lie? Ok. I'll answer. Yes.

Thank you.

Does that mean, automatically that they have no faith?

No.

Again, thank you. So we must admit that even those with faith can do horrible things. So much for being judgmental as to who is a "reprobate" and who is "darkness"

My complaint is that if it were me that lost control I would, like David, be asking God to grant me repentence, give me mercy, and take not thine Holy Spirit from me. I wouldn't be waking up the next day, donning a robe and passing out communion like nothing ever happened.

And you know for a fact what these priests might, and might not have done? I recall your hero David tried to hide the fact that he sent Bathsehba's husband out to get killed.

Sort of the ancient Hebrew equivalent to putting on a robe and carrying on like nothing ever happened.<> SD

You're the only one who gets to ask questions? I answered yours. Answer mine. Why do horny pediphile priests continue to minister? According to the apostle Paul they should be gone, delivered to Satan for the destruction of the flesh so that their sould will eventually be saved. Seems to me the following is your attitude.

1 Cor 5:2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

David's not your hero?

As I recall he did the things I mentioned I would do in my last post. In addition, he was on his knees for 24 hours and God allowed his baby to die anyway.

Thank you for confirming your attitude regarding scripture. Its putrid.

I love finding ways that people on different sides of issues can agree. So maybe we can come todgether in this way - pro-Death Penalty and Anti-Death Penalty people agree that the judicial system may not be all it needs to be because innocent people are executed. So what judicial reforms should be instituted?

The disciples weren’t ministers when Christ gave them the example, and when Paul told the church at Corinth they were doing it wrong, and carefully explained how it should be done, they weren’t ministers and he never alluded they had to be.

You and I will surely disagree over who is a valid minister for the eucharist. I would be suprised if you are saying that it happens by itself, without some person following Paul's instructions.

My point was only that a minister is necessary. Which minister is a discussion for another day.

I love your optimism. It's good to agree on here every once in a while.

Sadly (and here comes my pessimism), like our Congress, we get the gov't we deserve. If people cared about integrity we wouldn't have people lying on the stand, supresssing evidence, etc. And if we cared about people having integrity we wouldnt' put those kinds of people in power.

But that's not who we are. We need wholesale change of the heart.

So you agree that a murderous priest should be removed, but not a pedophile?

I never said any such thing. You don't know me very well.

Of coruse, sick perverted priests should be removed. Duh.

I was only arguing, in vain, the theological idea that the sin of the priest does not effect the sacrament. It seems you, still, want to harp on pedophiles to make yourself seem better.

Plus they're easy to judge. Go pray to God in thanks that you are not like that lowly priest.

The bottom line is that David hid his shame. So did pedophile priests. So did Adam and Eve.

And you have no idea what a pervert priest might say in prayer after doing something terrible.

No freaking idea.

But it's fun to imagine you are so much better than them, and that they don't have any faith or remorse.

I don't know if they do or not, but I consider it possible.

Kinda like priests are left in their offices.

Yes, exactly. Do you think I would think otherwise?

Bishops wanted to hide their shame.

Naw you just get your jollys thinking that I feel I'm better than they are. Have fun. Scripture says we should mourn that those who have done this deed haven't been taken away from among us. I'll stick with scripture. You can have the pointy hat.

Your right, I saw the word minister differently then you meant it, sorry.

In case you've forgotten what scripture I was talking about, here it is again.

1 Cor 5:2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

You act as if every RC priest is perfect.

I give up. I have said everything the exact opposite of this. You don't want to know. Be blessed in your ignorance, it is your only hope.

Brother, this is entirely judgmental and self-gratifying. Deny it if you wish, but it's there for those with eyes to see.
