The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Also when Mary attends a Baptist Church she isn't overwhelmed by people handing her sticky notes to pass on to Jesus. She is free to WORSHIP JESUS with the other saints!

Hmmm. So you don't consider it an act of worship when you join another in prayer?

There are two main types of images that you can post on the internet. They are .gif (Graphic Interchange Format) and .jpg (Joint Photographic Experts Group). Others are png, bmp, or occasionally, tif.

Who made these diametrically opposed statements concerning the same subject on the same day? None other than the intrepid spinner SD. That's who.

And he wonders why I get on his case. All I ask for is consistency and honesty. Is that too much to ask for?

Would you mind backing up the spittle machine and actually letting me know what you are talking about?

I don't see where you have posted any "diametrically opposed statements" I have made. Could you clue me in to what you think I have done, before you jump all over me?

Thanks.

Re 49657

I've not seen any of these.

Well, I'm not a Christian. I've never been called a pagan. But some believe that I'm not saved.

At least you weren't just referred to as "the Beast."

We should remember that Jesus the savior is also the implacable judge. Nice to have friends in court. I say this because I have been reading Revelations and I think that Billy Sunday's fire and brimestone sermons were quite appropriate. Not much of gentle Jesus here!

But even this isn't the most interesting thing to come from this little exercise. What's really interesting is that as I write this, no Protestant has denied they worship the Bible.

Now that's not too smart.

By implication you insist that each and every rediculous assertion must be denied?

How is school going?

School is wrapping up...that is why you are now seeing me post a few things. It has been a stressful year because I have been a t.a. for Greek, working in a church as an intern and going to school full time. So right now life has slowed because it is reading week (a week set aside for stuyding before finals which are next week). Last night, I was privileged to get a free ticket the Waldorf-Astoria in NYC in order to go to the National Right to Life banquet. It was incredibly fun! How is life going for you?

Ok, I'll respond. She said "How can this be, I know not a man". Obviously speaking in present tense not future tense. Really this is silly.

Left your nose out of the grammar and think about the situation.

If someone told your wife a few months before your wedding that she was going to conceive a child, would your wife say "How is this possible?"

This response makes no sense whatsoever unless the person was not expecting to engage in sex in the future.

Re 49677

Could that explain why there doesn't seem to be even one affectionate sounding communique between Jesus and his mother?

Well, now we've gone into reducto ad absurdum. We've followed the sola scriptura rabbit tracks as far as they can be taken.

Not pretty is it?

Those slavishly devoted to seeing the trees of the forest of Revelation are now incapable of knowing whether Jesus loved His mama. Since there are no "affectionate-sounding communiques" between the two captured in Scripture, they are left with no clue as to whether Jesus loved or hated Mom, or was totally indifferent.

Absolutely stunning.

Easter Weekday
First Reading:
Responsorial Psalm:
Gospel:
Acts 5:17-26
Psalm 34:2-9
John 3:16-21

If I were worthy of such a favor from my God, I would ask that he grant me this one miracle: that by His grace He would make of me a good man.

 -- St Ansgar

The following is, as usual, from The Word Among Us:

God so loved the world. (John 3:16)

Father in heaven, thank you for sending your Son to us. Through him, you have given us access to heaven and welcomed us into your eternal life with us--all this in spite of our sin and rebellion. Who are we, Father, that you would be so merciful to us?

Lord God, fan into flame our longing to live in your presence. May we never take your love for granted, forget you, or consider ourselves good enough to go on alone! Impress upon our hearts the truth that we depend on you at every moment. Even the air we breathe is a gift from you. No matter how much our lives become filled up with activities, we are still empty without you. Father, teach us to speak with you in our hearts and to listen for your voice throughout the day.

We pray also for those who have yet to hear your voice. Dispel the confusion that keeps them apart from you! Let them hear the words of your Son, inviting them into eternal life. Lord, the devil wants to keep people bound in sin so that they would not perceive and lay hold of the freedom Jesus offers. But this darkness is merely a cobweb that you can blow away the instant anyone turns to you. Let men and women everywhere come to know the freedom your Son has won for them. Sow the seeds of your love everywhere in the world, so that Jesus might be born in all hearts.

Thank you, Father, for your great mercy! We deserved death, but you chose to send your Son to die in our place. Now, grateful for your love, we run to you and soak ourselves in your kindness and compassion. We know you will not abandon anyone who turns his heart to you. Look deep into our hearts, Lord, and deliver us from every evil desire. Strengthen what is weak in us. Shine your light on what is good in us. Fill us with peace in your presence. Come, Father, and bring us into intimacy with you!

"Lord God, you are wonderful beyond all description. For giving us your Son we are grateful beyond words. Fill our hearts with your love and make us instruments of your grace in this world."

----------

God bless.

AC

Nevertheless, knowing as I do how the rest of you do consider us RCs to be members in good standing in the Christian brotherhood, I do freely apologise to anyone out there who feels they need one, most especialy those listed here, and thank you Reggie for taking the trouble to dispel my misperception.

Sorry.

I actually knew you were acting out of pique, something most of us are guilty of from time to time.

I certainly didn't take it personally, and if it had been addressed to me, I would have laughed it off.

I did take exception though, to the broad-brush indictment of an entire group.

That should read "lift," obviously. Do you know what "irony" means?

Don't start the day off with obtuseness. If a virgin (pay attention now) about to be married was told that she was (pay attention now) going to conceive a child (note the future tense) why would she conclude that it must be a miracle?

When God told Abraham and Sarah that she was going to conceive, she didn't assume that it would be without a man's help.

Please think about this.

OK keep using the bible and show where it says Mary is the other Mother of the church.

My purpose was to defeat your notion of demonstrating the "anti"scriptural nature of the title as opposed to the "extra"scriptural nature. Having done that... why move on?

But of course, it isn't that hard... so why not?

The church is the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:27
Mary is the mother of Christ - Matthew 1:16
"A is to B as A is to C if B=C" Mary is Mother of those who are in Christ.

Your reading comprehension skills suck this morning. Pay close attention. "How can this be?, I know not a man" (Since your paying careful attention to tenses this morning, note present tense). Slam dunk and all that. I'm tired of your private interpretation.
