It is interesting that the ONLY word which changed between the two translations was spirit/mind. Everything else is verbatim.

I can't really account for the difference, although the dustup here does seem to spark a memory that there were questions about the translation when the statement first appeared. Mine says it came from L'Osservatore Romano. Maybe it was printed in Father Guido Sarducci's gossip column ... ?
