Vatican Access with Robert Duncan opened both a 1:10 minute trailer and a full 50-minute interview with a clip of Bp. Robert Boxie claiming that “a couple months ago, I became the second African-American bishop in the entire United States.” The post on X for the interview on the Vatican Access account promoted the interview with the provocative statement:
Why are there so few Black bishops in America?
“The short answer is racism.”
But Bp. Boxie’s opening statement in the interview isn’t even true. The reality is that Bp. Boxie is the 29th African-American bishop appointed in the United States, the first being James Augustine Healy, who was consecrated bishop of Portland, Maine, on February 12. 1875. Today, there are 14 living African-American bishops in the United States, five of whom are still active: Bp. Boxie; Simon Peter Engurait — Bishop of Houma-Thibodaux; Jacques E. Fabre, C.S. — Bishop of Charleston; Shelton J. Fabre — Archbishop of Louisville; Jerome Feudjio — Bishop of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Perhaps what Bp. Boxie meant to say is that he is currently the second active U.S.-born African-American bishop in the United States, but that isn’t what he said.
Beginning at 35 minutes in the interview, Bp. Boxie defended DEI programs, claiming that the three concepts of “diversity, equity and inclusion” are “biblical, and part of our Catholic tradition.” And then he said:
“God has created the multitude, you know, every race and every culture and every language and every ethnicity, every creed – that that all stems from God. So, um, so diversity, um, you know, the one in the many; that’s a part of God Himself.” (emphasis added)
It is not only completely false to claim that God “created every creed,” but it is also a violation of the First Commandment and blasphemy because it indicates that God is the source of theological falsehoods. But a few minutes later, Bp. Boxie complained that we don’t talk enough about politics. He said:
“One thing that would be off-putting [is] when we don’t talk about the elephants in the room. Certainly, when it comes to our politics, certainly when it comes to policies of our government that are inconsistent with what we believe as Catholics, inconsistent with our Catholic faith, certainly Catholic social teaching; when we don’t talk about these issues in a real and honest and authentic way, and we don’t – Yeah. Again, the elephant in the room: when we just sort of, we don’t want to go there.”
Given this statement, perhaps he would like to explain his political campaign donations to ActBlue (which exclusively funds politicians devoted to grave immorality and condemned social teachings) and to openly pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, and pro-transgender Democrat Amanda Edwards. According to the Federal Elections Commission, Bp. Boxie made two contributions to ActBlue ($100 in 2019, and $50 in 2020) and contributed $250 to Amanda Edwards’ campaign on September 24, 2025. In the source information, Bp. Boxie identified himself as a Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C.
Edwards is endorsed by Emily’s List, whose sole purpose is to elect pro-abortion women to public office.
On her platform policy, Edwards said she will expand HIPPA regulations to cover “decisions about women’s reproductive health,” “Work to codify the protections of Roe v. Wade at the federal level,” and “Fight against bounty-style abortion bans by pursuing protections that would prevent the stalking or hunting of people seeking abortion care.”
Edwards also said that she will “Fight to ensure LGBTQIA+ people are federally protected from discriminatory policies that states including Texas are increasingly enacting.”
On June 24, 2024, Edwards loudly denounced the Dobbs decision that struck down the notorious Roe v. Wade decision, called for women to “stand up” and “galvanize,” and instructed her followers to visit Planned Parenthood.
On August 13, 2024, Edwards thanked the Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus for endorsing her campaign.
On March 31. 2022, Edwards posted a picture of herself standing with a man in drag, celebrating the legacy of “transgender” activist “Monica Roberts” in honor of “Trans Day of Visibility.”
On January 26, 2026, Edwards made her position in support of transgenderism very clear in a run-off debate against Christian Menefee, saying:
“I was on the front lines fighting the fight against trans discrimination when I was told it would tank my campaign. And I said to those who said that to me, ‘If this issue tanks my campaign, so be it,’ because right is right and wrong is wrong.”
The point is that Amanda Edwards’ positions on policies in direct opposition to Catholic moral teaching are not a secret, and Bp. Boxie would have known precisely what she was about at the time that he contributed to her campaign. In fact, as it turns out, Bp. Boxie shares quite a bit of history with Amanda Edwards.
Both Bishop Boxie and Amanda Edwards graduated with Juris Doctor degrees in 2007 from Harvard Law.
Bp. Boxie’s Linkedin profile indicates that he was an associate for Vinson & Elkins law firm from 2008–2010.
Amanda Edwards was an attorney at Vinson & Elkins from 2008–2012.
And on top of this, Bp. Boxie and Amanda Edwards are friends on Facebook.
The bottom line is that all indications are that Bp. Robert Boxie III knew fully well who Amanda Edwards is and what she stands for and what her positions are on matters of Catholic morality well in advance of his political contributions to her election campaign. So, while he lectures the Catholic Church in matters pertaining to “racism,” asserting that white Catholics tend to ignore the elephant in the room of politics and Catholic teaching – he completely ignores the Church’s teachings on abortion, on homosexuality, on transgenderism, on the nature of the family, and throws his own 30 pieces of silver into Amanda Edwards’ campaign.

While not Archdiocese funds, every Bishops is paid a salary, this still represents his political mand moral leanings.

This pope is very political. Would love to see him asked point blank if he voted for Obama and the other pro abortion Democrats when he lived Chicago.
Here’s a question, what are the chances act blue simply listed him as a way to cover up their own shady fundraising initiatives?
I remember a few stories about people supposedly donating to democrats but never did, yet they were reported as having done so.

If I lived in that diocese I could not support this Bishop nor the Church. Time to find a Fssp or Xxpx parish.

The Catholic Church is do racist that in Africa, Cardinals and bishops abound of various African descents...in Asia, of various asian descents in South America, various south american descents....so racist.
We need more priests, not more bishops....too cowardly to God already.
Church in America has had its bouts with racism though. Diocese in inner cities did do a lot of abandoning of people especially minorities during the so called “liberal” and “modernized” Vatican II Church.
