Why It Matters That Support for Israel Among Young Evangelicals Is Falling
Ethics & Public Policy Center ^ | January 25, 2022 | Peter Whener

“People have to understand that the backbone of Israel’s support in the United States is the evangelical Christians,” said former Israeli ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer last year. “If you look just at numbers, you should be spending a lot more time doing outreach to evangelical Christians than you would do to Jews…”

There is no single cause that satisfactorily explains the loss of support for Israel among a younger generation of evangelicals; it is a confluence of factors. One of them is theological.

Younger pastors are more amillennial than older ones, there’s less focus by the newer generation of pastors on the end times, and less attention paid to Israel within that context.

Another explanation tentatively put forward…is that the changing demographics among younger evangelical voters has led to a softening of support for Israel. (The population that is most supportive of Israel tends to be white evangelicals.)

But the most important reason support for Israel is cratering among younger Christians is that many of them have come to believe that Israel is an oppressor nation…

“For many young evangelicals, Israel is no longer the embattled democratic ally,” according to Robert Beschel.

A Christian who is sympathetic to Israel told me that as far as the Israeli-Palestinian issue, the key is creating more context.

Historically, he said, young evangelicals need to understand this is not a question of an imperialist oppressor and the indigenous oppressed. It is rather a situation where two peoples with their own historical, religious, and legal claims to the land have not yet reached a settlement of competing claims..

It means naming the fact that the Palestinian leadership, which has betrayed the Palestinian people at almost every turn, has made anti-Semitism a central, organizing principle of Palestine life—more central, even, than Palestinian statehood.

I see how evangelicals are becoming more liberal because liberal Protestantism dominates many of their church services as entertainment replaces the Word and they purchase material from liberal denominations.

Heads full of mush. Young Amillenialists believe the lies of Hamas, Communists and Globalists, that Israelis are the bad guys whenever they defend themselves against enemies that openly call for their annihilation. If Israel were truly the bad guy they would have leveled Gaza in 2 months rather than fighting a slow painstaking 2 year war that minimized civilian casualties.

Idiots have bought the media propaganda.

I don’t see that a less Israel centric focus makes an evangelical liberal.

Difficult question to answer without stomping on dogmatic toes... On all three sides of the issue. But its greater thand the 3 sides, it might as far as five - all prior to the “common era.” The rise of Islam complicates things further during this CE and is not all inclusive.

Measuring Israel’s actions against the Bible doesn’t seem wrong.

The issue is that the Isreal of the Bible is NOT the same Isreal that is present today. Same as in America, it’s not the ideal that the brilliant Founding Fathers designed.
Christians in Isreal are spat on by the most orthodox Jews, who ironically are the most traditional of the Israelis.
The support of God’s Israel is strong but held by very few due to the lack of truly strong Christians, ie Catholics.
We are strong armed into it being black and white. I support Isreal but don’t give a shite about most of the liberal, demonic, low IQ, turds that occupy Israel.

And it is those types both in Israel and here that are as great an enemy to Israel as is the horrid religion of hate, rape, misogyny, lying, and general awfulness.

If you questioned 2025 high school graduates to define the Holocaust, suspect fewer that 25% would have even a modicum of understanding of what actually occurred.

I suspect the answer is fewer than 10% or perhaps even less than 5%.

Nowadays, anyone can call himself an “evangelical” — even if he ignores huge swaths of scripture.

Those last 2 pics are Gaza I assume. When Hamas controls a country thru terrorism, that is what happens, in other words, FAFO

So you don’t understand my point. You could have put it better than comparing us to hateful murderers.

I’m going to say a couple of things that are probably going to get some people here riled up:

Just because something has a brand name that you recognize, doesn’t mean it is actually that thing. You guys remember the COVID “vaccines”? Were they really vaccines, or were a whole lot people just full of crap? Well, there is a country with the name of Israel, but is it really the Israel of the Bible? It was created in 1948. While I’m sure a lot of genuine Jews live there, the people in charge of that country don’t seem to give a damn about them, and they certainly don’t seem to be focused on doing the will of God.

Here’s what I really don’t get: why in the world would so many Christians be willing to put their own beliefs second to those of the Jews? If the Jewish religion and the actions of anyone calling themselves Jewish are superior to those of Christians, then what was the point of Jesus Christ coming to earth in the first place? Christianity was supposed to be the fulfillment of the scriptures, not some offshoot that has to consider itself inferior to the belief system of those who denied Christ.
