Pope Leo gives Charles III, head of Church of England, permanent chair at papal basilica

Charles will also pray alongside the Pope in the Sistine Chapel as part of a public 'ecumenical service.'

Pope Leo XIV is set to do something unprecedented when King Charles III takes part in his official visit next week.

Leo is designating Charles, the head of the Church of England, as a “royal confrater” of St. Paul’s Outside the Walls, one of the four papal basilicas. To that end Charles will be granted the use of a special, permanent chair.

Charles will also pray alongside the Pope in the Sistine Chapel as part of a public “ecumenical service.”

“It will mark a significant moment in relations between the Catholic Church and Church of England, of which His Majesty is Supreme Governor, recognising the ecumenical work they have undertaken and reflecting the Jubilee year’s theme of walking together as ‘Pilgrims of Hope,’” said a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace.

The two will also take part in a private meeting to discuss “climate sustainability,” according to Reuters.

This is a developing story…

Pope Pius XI in Mortalium Animos from 1928: “Venerable Brethren, it is clear why this Apostolic See has never allowed its subjects to take part in the assemblies of non-Catholics: for the union of Christians can only be promoted by promoting the return to the one true Church of Christ of those who are separated from it, for in the past they have unhappily left it.”

I believe you meant “haram.” “Garam” was the universally used Roman fish sauce condiment.

No matter. With the collapse of the Anglican Church this week with the exit of those who still believe in the Bible, the Catholic Church has finally triumphed over Henry VIII. So why not be generous?

...the Catholic Church has finally triumphed over Henry VIII.

Looks more like the Catholic Church has given Henry VIII an equal chair.

Charles isn’t Anglican.

Oh, yeah? Since when?

“I am a committed Anglican Christian, and at my coronation, I will take an oath relating to the settlement of the Church of England,” Charles said, but added he was also committed to promoting “freedom of conscience, generosity of spirit and care for others, which are, to me, the essence of our nationhood.”

There used to be a lot of threads on FR about him being Muslim, but I guess since the royal family simps took over. But this guy has spent the last 30 years bashing Christians into smithereens.

Is Prince Charles a Convert to Islam?

Charles is basically Mamdani, with better PR. (Except that Mamdani is probably an atheist, Charles goes with Allah.)

Charles isn’t Anglican.

Charles III is a member of the Church of England, which is a specific church within the larger Anglican Communion.

Wow, people will soon be too ashamed to admit they are a catholic. Perhaps a good thing, break away from the heresy and become a Bible believing Christian.

Way to slander a whole group of Christians because of the actions of a few. I am a Bible believing Christian. I’m also Catholic. I will never be ashamed of it because of the actions of others.
