Conclave Secrets — Why Prevost Won, Parolin Lost

This may have been one of the most tumultuous papal conclaves in recent memory, with the cardinals of the Roman Church settling on what appears to be a unifying Pope, Leo XIV.

It is remarkable that Robert Prevost, an American, became Pope. It long had been held that an American could never become Pope.

But Vatican sources, who are impeccable, tell Newsmax he was the man to beat from the minute the conclave began.

Here's what unfolded.

This conclave started last Wednesday with secret meetings in the Sistine Chapel.

But the discussions about replacing Francis began almost immediately after his death on April 21.

These meetings — general congregations — at first were comprised mainly of Vatican-based cardinals, but the numbers soon swelled as others arrived from distant parts of the world.

Sources said these meetings were very frank and, at times, quite difficult.

The open days were like "chaos," one participant said.

Francis had named so many cardinals, and many had never even met before. Other cardinals were shocked to hear tales of mismanagement and abuses under Francis.

Actually, +Francis ignored that, by appointing more than 120 cardinals of voting age.

I just listened yo a long interview of Bishop Strickland from Typer TX. He was interviewed by Gallagher of TAN Books.

I am really impressed with Strickland after hearing the interview. I also think far less of Francis for what he did with Strickland.

In this powerful episode, Conor Gallagher sits down with Bishop Joseph Strickland for an unfiltered conversation about his removal by Pope Francis.

Bishop Strickland shares his firsthand account of the events leading up to his dismissal, the moment he was told he was being removed, and how he has responded in faith. He reflects on the broader implications of his removal—what it means for the Catholic Church, the role of bishops in today’s world, and how faithful Catholics should respond to challenges in the Church.

The only thing Bannon got right as I see it is Bannon said Prevost could win and and this article says he was always in the mix. I have also read that Prevost was not the favorite of Bergoglio, but super leftwinger Zuppi was.

Before Bishop Strickland, Francis removed one of the bishops in Puerto Rico for no good reason. Let’s hope Pope Leo removes the excommunication inflicted on Vigano.

>> Let’s hope Pope Leo removes the excommunication inflicted on Vigano.

Whether he does or whether he doesn’t, it will be an interesting righteousness and character marker on the “infallible” Pope Leo.

The Vatican has numerous financial problems, including a $1.5 billion unfunded liability for its pension system...

The Vatican is running unhealthy annual budget deficits, as well. I would think the US church is a better place than Europe, South America etc. to look for money. A Pope born in the US might have been a big consideration for the conclave.

“infallible” Pope Leo

He'll be infallible if and when he ever issues an infallible teaching. A personnel decision, like reinstating Bp Strickland, is an administrative act which has no infallible character at all.

...criticized his Twitter comments opposing Trump and Vance on illegals.

In this area, I predict that Leo will be a thorn in Trump's side in much the same way that JPII was to the Soviets.

You do remember the Soviets tried to take out JPII.

I don’t mean to imply here that the US would attempt the same. But the Catholic Church’s attitude in favor of migration, and Catholic charities’ role in facilitating illegal immigration puts the Vatican in a similar spot, politically-speaking.

He is liberal-leaning on economic and social justice issues, but conservative on church teachings and traditions.

After Francis, the best we can hope for is that half a loaf is better than none.
