Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem
Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
How Majestic and Glorious,
How Wonderful,
and How Pure and Holy!
How Righteous and Just is Your Holy Word,
and How Exciting it is to Taste of it,
So Perfect,
and Sweet,
So Fair and True!
From The Exquisite Sweetness
and Orderliness of the Honeycomb
or the DNA Molecule,
to the Breathless Expanse
of The Canvas of Your Heavens,
Your Creation Sings of Your Glory
in a Never Ending Chorus of Praise!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

In the Early Nineteenth Century, people who lived in Middle America were unlikely to see Exotic Animals from Africa or Asia. Photography was in its infancy, so there were no Full-Color Magazines like National Geographic depicting Zebras or Elephants. The best people could hope for were depictions in Literature, Paintings and Drawings, and descriptions from other people who had traveled far away. That's why it was such an exciting event when the Circus came to town. One might actually get to SEE an Elephant.
I remember a poem from my childhood about Six Blind Men who got to "see" an Elephant.
It was this rarity of a chance to see a REAL elephant that coined a phrase during the American Civil War. A soldier who had never seen combat was considered "green" until he had his first experience in a battle. That first experience was called "Seeing the Elephant". Some kids "Saw the Elephant" as young as nine years old.
A very compelling movie from 1930 is "All Quiet On The Western Front". This was a story about some German lads who are all excited about fighting in World War 1, until they "See The Elephant". They are totally traumatized by the experience and come home different men
Since most of us have seen an elephant at one time or another (my first experience was as a five-year-old at The Franklin Park Zoo in Boston, and the Elephant decided to relieve himself right before my astonished eyes! YIKES!), the old Nineteenth Century expression doesn't seem as dramatic as it once was. A more modern expression is Baptism of Fire, referenced in Today's Scripture passage.
It has come to mean a soldier's first experience in a REAL Battle, when the "other guy" is out there trying to kill you. This has also been applied to people placed in a very traumatic situation for the first time.
John the Baptist says that he baptizes (immerses) people in water, but that Jesus will baptize people with FIRE. There are several interpretations of this. Some say that it means that, as Christians, we will face opposition, and maybe even torture or death. Others say this refers to God's Judgment, and He is a Refining Fire.
Still others say it predicts the Day of Pentecost, when the Apostles were baptized (immersed) in The Holy Spirit, Who appeared over their heads as Tongues of Fire.
Finally, there are those who say that this predicts a "Second Blessing" after the Christian's Conversion, in which the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are conferred upon the believer. Some Denominations have codified this into an Ordinance of the Church called "Confirmation". In the Catholic Church it is considered one of the Seven Sacraments.
Like the declarations of Six Blind Men, who perceive only Part of the Elephant, all of these interpretations are true, but not exclusive of each other. While a "Baptism of Fire" can be an ordeal that brings growth and strength, it can also be an immersion into the Power and Grace of The Holy Spirit, being imbued with His Wonderful Gifts, Being Empowered By His Wisdom and Understanding, Knowledge and Power, Counsel and Fear of the Lord.
This Baptism also may give a person Verbal gifts, like Tongues, Interpretation of Tongues, and Prophecy. A person might be given a Gift of Healing, or even Knowledge that can't be explained scientifically.
The key to all this is that we are to seek the GIVER, not the Gifts themselves.
It is the Baptism of The Holy Spirit that makes us fertile ground to then bear the Fruit of The Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23): love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.
A Baptism of Fire is Life-Changing!
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Psalm 121
A Song of Ascents.
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
from where will my help come?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
4 He who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
8 The Lord will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time on and for evermore.
