I am doubtful that Akita was ever approved as “genuine”. The phrase usually used is “worthy of belief”.

Nobody, Catholic or not, is obliged to believe even in an “approved” private revelation (public revelation ended with the death of the last Apostle).

What I know of Akita is sound, and its fruits, as far as I know are good. It is also not forever ongoing (contrast with Medjugorje), and the message is consistent with Church teaching and even human judgment.

Have you seen what Kissy Tucho has been approving?

Vatican approves devotion at popular shrines in India, Como

It said the truth of the nature of the Trinity is “expressed insistently” in Genovese’s writings, and that “the Church is called to rediscover more and more in the gestures of Christ that infinite mercy of the Triune God, who in the writings of Mr. Genovese is called by the name ‘Trinity Mercy’. This is the center of all the messages because, ultimately, it is the center of Revelation.”

Infinite mercy, but no justice in Frankenchurch. Why even believe in God?

A Correction about the approval of Akita by Rome

Then, on April 22, 1984, Bishop Ito, following the Holy See directives, issued a pastoral letter in which he declared that no one can deny the supernatural character of a series of mysterious events at a convent in Akita and solemnly declared that he has decided to ''authorize the veneration of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Akita'' on the strength of his power as the local ordinary.
