A little bit at a time, and sometimes, suddenly.
We studied Palos Verde peninsula as Cal State Fullerton geology students way back in 1968.
My professor just sorta laughed at the home building going on then. Several landslides were properly attributed to watering the landscapes. But the bigger ones were just the natural result of nature moving around. I think he nailed it best when he simply asked, “And why do you think there are cliffs here in the first place?”
