Though a controversial figure through much of the Church in America, Martin is a favored personality at the Vatican currently, being regularly received in private audience by Pope Francis.

He was personally selected by Francis to participate in the current Synod on Synodality and is also a papally appointed member of the Dicastery for Communications.

Fr. Martin has been beating his little homosexual thingie for many years.
There is still (and always will be) a big difference between welcoming homosexuals into church and seeking to normalize or legitimize their transgressions. Welcome them in, teach/preach proper moral values, and call upon all those present to genuinely repent and atone (sincerely work to align their lives along moral paths, setting their past sinful behavior aside).
Welcoming sinners into a church where their sins are welcomed with them, accepted and even approved or promoted.... is a sacrilege against our Divine Creator. It also seriously misleads the new parishioners. Instead, a sermon on Proverbs 4 would be one of several very good place to start,

.....20 My son, attend to my words;
Incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21Let them not depart from thine eyes;
Keep them in the midst of thy heart.
22For they are life unto those that find them,
And health to all their flesh.
23Above all that thou guardest keep thy heart;
For out of it are the issues of life.
24Put away from thee a froward mouth,
And perverse lips put far from thee.
25Let thine eyes look right on,
And let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
26Make plain the path of thy feet,
And let all thy ways be established.
27Turn not to the right hand nor to the left;
Remove thy foot from evil.”
