Jesus’ miracles should have shown alert people that he was literally more than a prophet. Feeding thousands, not hundreds, raising dead people who’d been dead for days, healing all kinds of diseases and casting out demons.
More than a prophet. But like us they still wanted to see something more.
Stuff going on in the world today makes your hair stand on end, for sure.
Christ return would be the worst possible thing that could happen to church.

The need to see with their own eyes Jesus coming on the clouds. Otherwise, saying “Jesus is coming soon” is just specuation.
Only God knows the time of Christ’s return, No one else knows.
As my Mom told me decades ago:
“I grew up in the Great Depression, during the Dust Bowl, with WW2 on the horizon. We had far more reason to believe in the end of the world then than now!”
We are getting closer, but we will not know when.
Maybe one Christian ever who’s ever ever ever gotten it correct?
The end of the world nonsense is a fabulous excuse for weak men to stop fighting evil and just plain give up.
It gives them every excuse in the world to kick their feet up and let the hordes over run every thing good that God has given us.
