REPENTANCE - as the Scriptures say - comes before being born again. Works follow being born again because, as scripture says:
“This is the covenant that I will make with them
in the days to come, says the Lord:
I will put my laws in their hearts
and write them on their minds.”
17 And then he says, “I will not remember their sins and evil deeds any longer.” - Hebrews 10
The HOLY SPIRIT will change you, from the inside out. GOD promises.
“Doing penance” is trying to earn the gift of salvation, which comes from what Jesus said, “The right time has come and the Kingdom of God is near! Turn away from your sins and believe the Good News!” - Mark 1
But you go on trying to earn your way, and pushing lies that we MAKE God accept us by our good deeds.
He probably doesn’t know the definition of “eternal”.
Thank you, Lord, for opening my eyes 30+ years ago and freeing me from this bondage of guilt, shame, and “it’s never enough”. Soften the hearts of those clearly searching and give them ears to hear. Let them truly feel the finished work of Your sacrifice on the cross. Amen.
