You’re attempting to try and word smith on this. The other writing of the pope are either valid or not. Call it infallible if you want to. They’re either correct or not.

Now you’re back to works for salvation. There are no good deeds nor any amount of good deeds we can do to earn our salvation or keep it. It is God Who saves and keeps us.

The folks who’ve been saying believers can’t read the Bible for ourselves are your fellow Roman Catholics on these forums.

There is no such thing as "Catholic Internet poster infallibility," is there?

Now your back to changing the subject because you can't stick to one topic at a time. I have work to do.

I said nothing about anything being "valid" or "binding". Don't put words in my mouth.

Never said you did. I'm merely asking questions.

Why do you immediately jump from "not infallible" to "not valid or binding"?

As I noted a post or so ago....a teaching/ruling from the pope is either something the Roman Catholic has to follow or reject; if the later is possible.

One of the complaints of Roman Catholics against Christians is "everyone is their own pope.". Well, what it appears you are saying is every Roman Catholic is their own pope as well.

Not really seeing the difference.

(And btw, something can be "valid" but "not binding" quite easily. Clement XIV's decree suppressing the Jesuits was absolutely valid. It is not binding on me in any way; this is not the 18th century, and I am not a Jesuit.)

But why isn't it still valid or binding? Just because it was a couple of hundred years ago and you're not a Jesuit.

Well, there is one poster who thinks he is....not you though.

And I do believe people reading the Bible for themselves has been an issue with Rome since the Reformation...has it not?

>>Only Rome can tell us what is or isn’t right.<<

I add the following for context as my comment pertains to the reading/understanding of Scripture.

We’ve been told repeatedly we cannot read the Bible for ourselves. Only Rome can tell us what is or isn’t right.

Wrong. God didn't give you a conscience as a vestigial organ.

If people are relying on their "gut"....well, we've seen the errors that's caused over time.

It's your duty to form your conscience by studying correct teaching, among other things. Sitting around waiting for Rome to rule on every jot and tittle will keep you waiting for a very long time.

Which again I raise the issue of how do you know what is officially right or not as Rome has only dogmatically defined a very small number of verses.

How do you know if your priest is telling you the right things?

I mean, we see the current pope saying some stuff that's raising a ton of questions even among Roman Catholics. If the RC can't trust their pope, and in that regard their church.....you see the point.

Pay no attention to the peanut gallery, especially when they say “they have been told”.

It’s a strawman for them to just make up stuff.

And that's coming from one of the biggest anti-popes on these forums.

But, hey....glad to know from the poster that Rome isn't the final authority on these issues. That's the only logical conclusion to his/her position.

As I've told the poster before.....you're not very good at this internet debate.

Sorry, but my post to you was “informational.” I long learned that arguing with a Protestant about Catholicism is a fool’s errand. Believe what you will.

Your tagline highlights one of the glaring errors of Roman Catholic theology.

Somebody is confusing anti-popes with anti-Bergoglio. There's a big difference.

But forgive him, Father, for he knows not what he does or says.

“man made”?

So you don’t believe Matthew 19:11?

I believe Matthew 19:11. I just don’t believe your (or your church’s) interpretation of Matthew 19:11.
