“Prosperity gospel” preachers are insidious. Most of them start their pitch with a legitimate biblical message, one that makes sense in today’s world. There’s no talk of sending in money. Then the topic of money slowly creeps in. The next thing you know, you’re pulling out your checkbook.
These charlatans usually have a tell. It’s the word “seed”.
“Plant your seed (a large donation), and you will harvest one hundred-fold. Let me tell you about Jenny (who probably doesn’t even exist). Jenny sent in a $1000 seed last month. Yesterday, she got a call from her credit card company. They have forgiven her entire debt.”
I’m not exaggerating here.
