I’m not Catholic. Could someone explain to me why the Latin Mass is superior to a regular mass? (Of course, I can see how some of the “trendy” masses would be wrong).
The Mass — any Catholic Mass — connects us to the Sacrifice of Christ on the Cross.
The Latin Mass connects us to the Early Western Church when our faith was most directly shaped by the Fathers of the Church, both East and West.
Anything that was added later: prayers in vernacular, moody secular music replacing choral chants, priest facing the congregation like a leader in a class, casual-looking portable altar, church service seen as a lesson and a meal — damages the connection.
The fear is that the signal is drowning in the noise.
