Someone is bankrolling this for Reiner. Typically, Marxists don’t like to throw away their own money.

I know nothing about this movie, but you usually hear the most barebones indie films costing in the low single digit of millions of dollars. So let’s be generous and speculate this one is $1 million. Proving once again that a fool and his money are soon parted

Since his bankrollers wish to remain anonymous and wouldn't want anyone to know they gave Reiner money for his anti-Christian movie, Reiner could then sell the same opportunity to multiple anti-Christians, like the movie 'The Producers'. Rob Reiner could be Max Bialystock in real life.

From Wikipedia for 'The Producers' (1967) written by Mel Brooks

"The Producers is ... about a theater producer and his accountant who scheme to get rich by fraudulently overselling interests in a stage musical purposely designed to fail. Accountant Leopold "Leo" Bloom... arrives at Max's office to audit his accounts and discovers a discrepancy in the accounts of Max's last play. Max persuades Leo to hide the relatively minor fraud, and while shuffling numbers, Leo realizes that, as a flop is expected to lose money, the IRS will not investigate its finances, so a producer could earn more from a flop than from a hit by overselling interests and embezzling the funds. For this same reason, no duped investor will be aware of the many others, thus protecting the pair from charges of fraud. Max instantly puts this scheme into action. They will oversell shares on a massive scale and produce a play that will close on opening night..."

Bernie Madoff worked his scam by telling his "investors" that they were getting in on a scam ripping off "the other guys". The "investors" didn't realize they were the mark of the con game and that there were no "other guys".
