Hello....in the 1990’s Catholics were still going to Mass and getting married in the Church!! You are forgetting the times.
A marriage would not be allowed during Lent, except, perhaps, for unusual circumstances. Funerals are, for obvious reasons, done during Lent except for Holy Week. That said, what happened the other day was an outrage.
