Oh, heck, lots of people in Northern IL don’t have a clue about Southern IL...
In the ‘70s, my Dad and I visited some relatives in Metropolis for some fishing.
I liked it there, but it is different, what surprised me was the strong Southern accent that everyone had. The locals had trot lines set across the river, and we caught a lot of gar- they were as numerous as carp are here.
We even ventured briefly across the Ohio into Paducah Kentucky for dinner.
Great fried fish and Hush Puppies!
It was a good time.
