I see this argument from RCs a lot when the pope says things they don't like....and with the current pope that's been quite a lot.

However, how does a Roman Catholic reconcile what you've said with Unam Sanctam?

"Furthermore, we declare, we proclaim, we define that it is absolutely necessary for salvation that every human creature be subject to the Roman Pontiff"

*****

That says nothing about when the pope speaks ex-cathedra or some other attempt to deflect by RCs.

As noted before, we see daily posts from RCs against their pope. Sure seems they are not being subject to the Roman Pontiff.

One would be well advised to be very careful about this beyond merely bullying someone who may or may not be correct.

“ In 2009, Pope Benedict affirmed that Catholicism comes without an escape clause: Once a person is baptized or received into the Church, there is no getting out.

Of course rejecting ecclesiastical communion or the Church’s doctrine has consequences, among them the penalty of excommunication. But excommunication is a punishment, not a shunning. Disobedient or dishonest Catholics might face damnation for their choices, but they will go their deathbeds as members of our Church. One can be a Catholic and be pro-choice, but having rejected the truth and the Church’s communion, he had better be prepared to face his judgment.”

Ecumenism is the gateway to apostasy. Cozying up to false religions is stylish, but dangerous.

Who is Sister Lucia?

What happened to her notable younger kin?

Catholics are in the right, MM.

“I’ve found a Baptist church with a brilliant pastor.”

I’m jealous. We can’t find one of those here in the “buckle off the Bible Belt”, Tennessee. Imagine that. Disappointing.

It looks as if Holy Mother Church is going to have to wait at least little while longer before you come around.

Hat in hand.

If she had been, she wouldn’t have needed a Savior, which she clearly acknowledged she did.

“Anyone who has received the sacraments is never an ex-Catholic. Anyone who has not received the sacraments was never Catholic”

Is there a chapter and verse on that, or is it just another extra-Biblical fable? Oh wait ... I know.

“elevation of Mary to the Queen of Heaven such that she was the co-Redemptrix.

That concept of co-redeemers (especially the combo of mother-son) is a common pagan concept, pre-dating even the invention of the RC revenue generating scheme.

So people who adhere to the Bible, and believe in its inerrancy, and verbal and plenary inspiration, are ILL informed? And people who pay no attention to Scripture, and add manmade nonsense, are WELL informed? SMH.

You can gang up on free republic. The anti Catholic thread on a Sunday and in advent will be well attended. It’s smart to remember that getting into heaven is not like rushing a general admission event with a mob

Quote:

Where in the Bible does it say that we can live sinful lives and still go to heaven as long as we claim to have faith?

__________________________________

No true Christian desires to continue in sin. However, due to the weakness of the flesh we all fall short.

If anyone claims otherwise, explain the following Scripture:

1 John 1:7-9
King James Version

7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Paul also understood this...

Romans 7
King James Version
7 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?

2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.

17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Gendron forms his thesis on historical data and not temporary fame.

From what I've seen, the "historical data" he uses is generally either (a) wrong or (b) misinterpreted to a degree that is utterly blind (to be charitable) or otherwise malicious. (After all, he himself professes on his ministry's website that "after 35 years of being a devout Catholic, I had a crisis of faith when I began reading the Bible for the first time." Given that Bibles in the English vernacular (particularly the Challoner edition of the Douay-Rheims translation) had been published for lay usage in America since 1790, the prospect that he had not cracked open a Bible during his first 35 years of life strikes me as highly implausible for a "devout Catholic" to admit.)

Also, his ministry — "Proclaiming the Gospel", whose website features a store and a donation page — as a 501(c)3 organization, has its public filings available for public consumption. The most recent year I was able to download (2019 Form 990; 2020 and 2021 were not available for me to download) shows some interesting information:

- Revenue in the form of $244,485 "contributions and grants" and $24,437 in "investment income";
- Total compensation to Mike Gendron was reported as $75,000 in reportable W-2/1099 compensation, with "other compensation" equaling $44,087; for $119,087 in toto;
- Total compensation to his spouse Jane Gendron was $15,600 in W-2/1099, with "other" being $10,487, for $26,087 in toto;
- In terms of all expenses, this means given $145,174 in compensation to the Grendons and $48,507 in "management and general expenses", this left $96,667 to be spent towards actual "program service expenses" (i.e. what was actually spent to "fulfill the mission of the organization"); in other words, not even 40% of the contributions/grants received in 2019 went towards program services, well below the 65% threshold recommended by the Better Business Bureau for what constitutes a "good" charity;
- Most interestingly, the ministry's balance sheet reported $23,061 in cash on hand, and $1,266,116 in "savings and temporary cash investments".

Not a bad gig for what amounts to selling recycled talking points and ancient argumentation that can be found on the Internet for free.

Whether or not there's any "temporary fame" (small-scale or otherwise) associated with his Proclaiming the Gospel organization, there is absolutely a monetary/temporal benefit that he's gaining which cannot be discounted.
