It’s amazing how clearly Brian Moore, just a few years into the post-Vatican II debacle, so completely “got it” about where the Church was heading. Long before Bergoglio came on the scene, Moore saw the end game of an apostate Church hellbent on stamping out the vestiges of the traditional Catholic faith and practice. The movie version, though embarrassingly low-budget, is a minor masterpiece... with an incredible cast. Martin Sheen, Trevor Howard, Cyril Cusack and Michael Gambon in the *same* low-budget flick?! It scarcely seems possible. but there it is.
I heard hair-raising stories, some of abject cruelty, about what certain dioceses did to implement the so-called spirit of V2; it does not surprise me that there were those who understood early what was happening.
As far as I can tell, it was very much limited to some areas.
