Should Genesis Be Taken Literally?

There are more than 300 known records of the Flood world-wide, with about 30 of them in writing. Some are remarkably close in their details to the original—the biblical account.

Creationists are often accused of believing that the whole Bible should be taken literally. This is not so! Rather, the key to a correct understanding of any part of the Bible is to ascertain the intention of the author of the portion or book under discussion. This is not as difficult as it may seem, as the Bible obviously contains:

Poetry—as in the Psalms, where the repetition or parallelism of ideas is in accordance with Hebrew ideas of poetry, without the rhyme (parallelism of sound) and metre (parallelism of time) that are important parts of traditional English poetry.

Oh. So He should override their choice and force them to do what He wants? Should He do that with you and force you into compliance?

Any innocent ones are now in heaven with Him.

We all die. It’s the result of sin. it’s just a matter of how and when. And it’s God’s decision and since He does not eradicate life, He cannot be charged with killing in the sense we know of it.

You do realize that those people had PLENTY of warning, don’t you? It took Noah 120 years to build the ark and it wasn’t done in secret. You cannot hide something that size. I can only imagine the ridicule he faced day in and day out. A boat? For what? What’s rain? Sure Noah. (tapping their foreheads and shaking their heads)

And even after Noah and his family and all the animals went on the ark, God gave them another 7 days grace period.

Do you think god should not allow anyone to go to hell either? That He should force all people into heaven t be with Him whether they want it or not?

The day is coming when He WILL establish the perfect sin free world.

But as long as men have a sin nature and a will and they choose evil over repentance and forgiveness, there will be consequences for their decisions and actions.

So just what is the opposite of a Hardcore Christian? Do they have the correct interpretation? Are they Softcore Christians?

The question that you should be asking yourself is "Why am I concerned with having the "correct interpretation"? And why am I concerned with other peoples' "interpretation"? If you want to concern yourself with such things, thats your call. But it will get you nowhere and will only add to your self-righteous pride...a very dangerous characteristic...taken to extremes by the likes of Westboro Baptist Church Pastor Fred Phelps and most of his family and congregation. Ones relationship with the Holy Spirit is exactly that...Spiritual. Grace is free...through faith. Religion says you have to earn it. Thats false. But many Spiritual "leaders" would have you believe that you can 'buy' your way into heaven. Like Jesus said..."What is that to thee? Follow thou Me." Dont worry about what others think, say, or do. That includes me.

like software, God precompiled creation PRIOR to his deployment to production... the launch included all inputs including stars, galaxies, time and gravity all fully compiled and ‘in flight’ at the instant it was all deployed.

we have required a few... ahem... bug fixes now and again, however. six days, evening and morning were built in to the deployment... now we are in active use and bug fixing mode on the production model... started at day seven. the work is done... but the bug fixes... are features not defects.
