a few weeks ago, we reported that Contemporary Christian Worship celebrity and lead guitarist in the “Christian” band, Caedmon’s Call, Derek Webb, who defected from the faith a few years ago and came out in full support of sodomy, decided to gather with two other sexual deviants and crash the Dove Awards wearing drag.
Posting an image of himself wearing a dress, he later explained that his reasoning for doing so was a “special occasion” where he wanted to help his friends, drag queen “gospel singer” Flamy Grant and lesbian “gospel singer” Semler, fit in better in traditionally “Christian spaces” where they wouldn’t normally be accepted.
Yet, after looking into it, wearing dresses and prostituting himself out by selling pictures of himself wearing dresses on merchandise on his website appears to be his new thing. Currently, you can purchase merchandise featuring pictures of the Caedmon Call band member wearing a white dress and an open blouse on his personal website, derekwebb.com.
Webb, once a star in the highly popular 90’s Christian band Caedmon’s Call, has become yet another casualty of the contemporary Christian music industry. It’s an open secret—the vast majority of these so-called “Christian” rock stars use their “Christian” platform merely as a stepping stone to the secular stage. From Hillsong to Lauren Daigle to Lecrae—what do they have in common? They exploit the Christian label for a convenient entry into the broader, more lucrative music scene. Why? Because they’re fully aware that the bar is set significantly lower in the Christian worship circuit, making it the perfect gateway for wider industry exposure.

Derek is a heretic, no doubt about it.
Never heard of him myself. Does he have a following?
Because the world is clamoring for pictures of a middle-aged bald dude in a dress. I bet he's making a fortune... /s
The site makes you subscribe to see the article. Can you post a pic here?
I had never heard of him either. He was a member of a Christian rock band that was big back in the 1990’s. Don’t know how big they are today. Some here seem to remember them.
Caedmon’s Call was pretty good, back in the day
You don’t have to. Just click on the X at the bottom right and that pop up will go away.
Our growing language: “worship artist”, “worship celebrity”.
As stupid as "influencer"
I'm so old I remember when the main controversies of CCM musicians were things like Amy Grant getting a divorce. LOL As far as other sins, I never got distracted much when it came to light the musicians sinned (hey, I sin too, in some ways their struggle with sin reminds me that I'm not alone and I should keep trying to improve). I'd still listen to the music and be encouraged to stick to Jesus like glue.
But now we're looking at more and more of the CCM'ers changing their public message. Some like this guy promoting hedonism. Others saying Jesus isn't divine (i.e. Keven Max of the old DC Talk and a couple of years with Audio Adrenaline). Once the message changes, it ceases to lose the 2nd C of CCM, which is the most important of the 3 letters.
All the more reason to keep listening to the decades old stuff like Petra, Mylon, Barren Cross, Rick Cua, and D&K with a few relatively newbies who've been around awhile and seem to stay on message (i.e. Third Day). Listening to most of that is like listening to Bible teaching with music.
“As stupid as “influencer”
Right on! I hate that term.
There are plenty of others: “unhoused”, “food desert”, ...
“Christian contemporary” music hasn’t been Christian for at least 30 years, probably more.
“Contemporary” is a term of art. In this context it means “degenerate”.
