I do fear this will escalate quickly should Iran toss acid on the situation.
If Syria wants to continue to exist they’ll stay out of it.

I suspect the million plus people told to evacuate south will be there for a while as Israel works to fully clean out the north (every square inch of it)* - and this time the usual niceties of Israeli military behavior, such as often losing their lives in the course of trying to protect Palestinian civilians, will not apply.
The Israeli army simply cannot ‘be nice’ given the forces they have and the job ahead. Basically, unless the person is clearly identifiable as an elderly woman or young child, they’ll be taking a bullet or two, if they’re still in the North.
If Hamas understands the Israeli situation and cares about its civilians, they won’t force some to stay as human shields, as that also won’t work...that simple.

I don’t think Assad wants to get involved. Militarily, he’s got too much on his hands already, economically, he’s getting rich in the ME drug trade.

...and if you look at it from the other perspective, what the hell can Israel do to respond effectively to 1000+ of their citizens killed and not get hammered in the media?
That’s why we have two carriers. The Russians will probably put a leash on Hezbollah. And Putin will tell Iran to be discreet for the time being.
Target Iran as they will have nuclear bombs and will use them. Destroy their gov’t.
