You guys are funny.
Y’all preach “sola scriptura”, but selectively reject the scripture that you disagree with.
There’s a word for that: hypocrites.
Matthew 23:9And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.
FWIW, not that I expect reason to connect with you, it is no different than Catholics selectively picking what Scripture they want to believe. When confronted with a contradiction, like those two verses, one where RC'S claim Jesus authorized the Catholic priesthood to absolve or retain sins, and the verse where the Holy Spirit promises us that if we confess, God WILL forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, Catholics by default go with whatever supports Roman doctrine.
However, what they don't address is the contradiction. Both verses cannot be true. And since Scripture does not contradict itself then one of the interpretations is wrong and needs to be addressed.
1 John 1:9 is pretty straightforward, so that leaves the other one to be considered, and that has already been explained to you by other FReepers.
But Catholics will never admit their religion is wrong about anything because that opens a real can of worms for them. If they admit that Romanism has been wrong about something, then it leaves the possibility that it was wrong about other things as well, and that simply cannot be tolerated in the Catholic mind.
