First Christian Church of Burbank is an “open and affirming” congregation nestled in the heart of California. No ELCA or PCUSA; they are part of the Disciples of Christ. This mainline protestant denomination is in full communion with the unregenerate rapscallions in the United Church of Christ. The DOC has been bleeding members over the last decade, losing nearly half their congregants, the majority of whom died of old age, and now have a little over 110k on a weekly basis.
As a denomination, they have adopted the 19th-century slogan of the Stone-Campbell Movement: “In essentials, Unity; In non-essentials, Liberty; and in all things, Charity” and have taken it very, very literally.
Because they promote unity above doctrine, and they allow a wide range of freedom to interpret the scriptures- being anti-creed and anti-confession- the fact that they are openly pro-LGBTQ and pro-abortion is the least of their problems.
Many within the denomination question or outright deny primary doctrines, such as the virgin birth of Christ, a belief in the Trinity, Jesus performing miracles, the scriptures being inspired and without error, and even the atonement of Christ-all with the blessing of their General assembly and denominational heads.
Led by ‘impastor Brandon Johnson, the church celebrated Pride Sunday by inviting a congregant on stage to ‘lead us in a time of reflection’ and sing a solo, which ended up being Gloria Gaynor’s 1984 hit ‘I Am What I Am.’ He soon begins stripping down into a garish LGBTQ explosion of an outfit, replete with arm streamers, all the while singing lyrics like:
“I am what I am And what I am needs no excuses I deal my own deck Sometimes the ace sometimes the deuces It’s my life that I want to have a little pride in My life and it’s not a place I have to hide in Life’s not worth a danm til you can shout out I am what I am
In 2018 they reported 124K attenders across 3K "churches" (avg 40 per "church"). Some churches would call that a small group.

Funny but I don’t recall any mention of freaks doing a strip tease at any “First Christian Church” mentioned in Acts.
So, in effect, they have a rudimentary, passing acquaintance with the Bible.
They do the Cliff Notes version instead of immersing themselves in the Word.
They know Christ already paid for their sins, his death being viewed as a celestial credit card, so they will load up the tab.
The First Satanist Church of Sodom & Gomorrah.
Not Christian.
Exactly. I’ve attended Bible study classes that were bigger.
Next, the mentally challenged little man will whip out his tallywacker to add even more spice.

IIRC, David stripped down (naked??) and danced before the Lord. I don’t recall the context though. Pretty sure it wasn’t in the Temple.
It’s in 2 Samuel 6. Celebrating the return of the Ark to Jerusalem, sounds like David enjoyed the celebration with some wine before stripping to a loin cloth and dancing and jumping around in public. Behavior unbefitting of a king. Upon returning home he was met with a stern rebuke from Michal daughter of Saul, who had witnessed the public display.
They tossed the inerrancy of scripture out the door more than 50 years ago and I suspect many in their number would even deny the necessity of Christ’s atonement for sins.
This article rightly connects them historically with Stone-Campbell but those early founders would have had nothing to do with the abomination that many DOC have devolved into.
Thanks for the complete story! I was going to mention that I didn’t recall if that was before or after David sent that soldier off to battle so he could have his wife, Bathsheba.
But I can see these folks taking that one piece of scripture and claiming that it is okay to do this sort of stuff.
What aggrevates me most about this is to think of the original carriers of the Word and all they endured and suffered In order to carry The zHoid News
This isn’t happening in atheist or pagan societies. It’s happening in the post-Christian, now-increasingly-Satanist Western nations.
Exactly. Even the Muslims would not commit such satanic sacrilege in a Christian church.
“I am what I am”
I think he’s kind of missing a major point about Christianity. This man needs to learn that it’s not about him. It’s about oneself.
