Why Would ERLC Leader Support Paying for Trans Shooter’s Funeral, But Not Victims’ Funerals?

The Southern Baptist Convention’s rogue entity known as the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) has a strange reputation of doing the exact opposite of what its constituents support, not to mention, the opposite of what the Bible teaches, on a number of hot-button issues. Not to rehash the details of all of the policy positions the ERLC has fallen on the wrong side of, suffice it to say that in opposition the majority of Southern Baptists, its leadership supports such things as amnesty for illegal aliens, no criminal punishment for mothers who commit abortions, stricter gun control, and practically every anti-conservative position there is, to some extent.

Since Russell Moore left two years ago, his successor, Brent Leatherwood, has been unveiling his own mask and exposing the very rot of neo-conservatism within himself. A compromised, faux conservativism that seeks to find a “middle ground” with blasphemers, idolaters, and haters of God all in the name of political expediency.

On March 27, 2023, a mass shooting occurred at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, which resulted in multiple fatalities. As you may or may not know by now, Leatherwood has three children enrolled at the school. Since the shooting, Leatherwood has exploited the situation to advance and promote unpopular, anti-conservative measures including stricter gun control.

The attack was carried out by a transvestite leftist who had written a “manifesto” which has currently been withheld due to public records requests made by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department as well as the activism of Southern Baptist Convention ERLC head, Brent Leatherwood.

In a letter addressed to Lt. Gov. Randy McNally, House Speaker Cameron Sexton, and all members of the legislature, Leatherwood presented an appeal from both his personal experience and on behalf of the majority Southern Baptist sentiment, according to The Tennessean. He urged lawmakers to ensure that no school in Tennessee ever has to endure the same nightmare as the Covenant School tragedy again.

Leatherwood told the lawmakers that Southern Baptists make up one-fifth of the population of Tennessee and have repeatedly called for ways to reduce gun violence, a seemingly veiled threat by the former leader of the TN Republican Party that he may use his power of leadership over Southern Baptists to sway the vote. “Other voices are saying there is too little time left in this legislative session to consider such a proposal. Little credence should be given to that,” he said in the letter, according to the Tennessean.

It has also recently been brought to our attention that Leatherwood, and several of his peers at Covenant where the shooting took place, rallied together to pay for the funeral of the transvestite shooter who carried out the attack on these innocent victims.

But why?

“It’s absolutely necessary,” one of the parents said in an interview with CBN News. “It’s the point. She (Hale) was raised not completely in that community, but she was part of it for a minute and unfortunately through degrees at a time got completely lost. I don’t think we allow that to sever her parents’ need for love.”

On the one hand, it is commendable that the victims of such a tragic event are able to muster together enough forgiveness in order to be able to demonstrate the gospel and move on with their lives. Yet, it doesn’t appear to be what this is. In fact, coupled with his same efforts to hide the shooter’s motives by censoring her manifesto seems a little off.

Adding fuel to that fire, the same people who rallied together to pay for the shooter’s funeral basically told the family members of the shooter’s victims—the actual victims of this heinous crime—to go pound sand. At least two of the victims had a GoFundMe set up by third parties and not as an act of benevolence from the school or the Church, to help the families out, including Mike Hill, the school janitor, and William Kinney, one of the children. Others did as well, but these were not efforts supported by Leatherwood or in any official capacity from the school, as was the shooter’s funeral.

This isn’t about the money, but it’s about misplaced priorities and the endless virtue-signaling coming out of the Southern Baptist Convention and the ERLC. There are true victims of this hate crime that were committed, and Southern Baptist leaders would rather show partiality and more charity to the villain who took the lives of innocent children and people than he would to those who were innocent.

The question is “why?” Who exactly are they trying to appease and what exactly are they trying to hide by refusing to release the shooter’s motives to the public? This is unprecedented and something strange is going on. I can’t exactly put my finger on it yet, but rest assured, I will. It will come out sooner or later. Stay tuned!

I'm glad they are not letting this subject be forgotten.

I wonder why.

Something smells rotten in Denmark.

It would seem the ERLC is a rogue agency inside the SBC, and is purpsely trying to drive SBC public awareness in ways I imagine most in the SBC do not support.

Where is the SBC members movement to disband the ERLC.

Yeah, that’s one theory. That the manifesto is not being suppressed by the left to keep people from learning about some leftie agenda, but that the manifesto is being suppressed to protect people that the killer named as having molested her or something like that.

Either way, tell the truth and shame the devil, release the manifesto.
