I do love this Russian artist! His painting of the “Resurrection of Jairus’ daughter” won him the Great Medal, awarded for exceptional achievements.
Not many paintings, but a few which are exquisite.
Those paintings are beautiful! Thanks for posting!
My pleasure.
Good Morning Dan, on a day of appreciation for our God-given freedoms. Wishing all patriots a day of joy and thanksgiving.
Polenov is very popular around here (one of my personal favorites). Greatly enjoy his detailed and careful treatment of architectural stonework.
Thank You Dan!
Praise God from Whom all blessings flow.
Happy Fourth, Leon!
I love this guy! Can I call him a dreamy realist? His “Lord’s Supper” might be my favorite depiction of that event. It’s intimate, yet secluded. It just wants to draw you in, like you are standing there in sandals, and can take a few steps forward and be in the presence of the Lord.
Great description of your reaction. Thanks!

And a very happy Fourth to you, Tom.
I cannot know whether Polenov resisted the Holy Spirit’s prompting to produce more of his excellent biblical art. I do know that I wish for more.
I was not familiar with this artist! He is magnificent!
And that is why he is featured. Little notoriety, big talent.
Although I think there's good reason for that. We have (despite "scientists" purportedly answering the question) no idea what Christ looked like- largely because at the time the eastern Mediterranean was the crossroads of the world and a Jewish man could be anything from David's "fair and ruddy" to the color of the Ethiopian chamberlain that Philip met on the road coming from Jerusalem. So each artist sees his own people in Christ.
