A C T S «Chapter 9» In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!” “Yes, Lord,” he answered. The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.” “Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem. And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.” But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is MY CHOSEN INSTRUMENT to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.” Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again.

21 "Baptism of St. Paul by Anania" Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. All those who heard him were astonished and asked, “Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?” Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus BY PROVING THAT JESUS IS THE CHRIST.
After many days had gone by, the Jews conspired to kill him, but Saul learned of their plan. Day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him. But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall.

#11 i wonder, was that the same ananias that was later struck down by God?
My favorite is probably #2. Nice details in the painting- I generally prefer more impressionistic works, but do appreciate the ti e and skill that goes into more detailed works.

Good Morning Dan, and hello to all!
Beautiful pieces you’ve chosen.
So Paul began to change under God’s hand, just as we continue to grow, as we are obedient. He never stops urging us forward.
Thank You Dan!

Different Ananias. This one lives in Damascus, while the dead one lived in Jerusalem. Also, if it were the same one, Luke would have mentioned it. Indeed, that would have been a sensational story: the disciple awarded the honor of rescuing Saul later falling spectacularly from grace.

It was Paul whom the Spirit inspired to write,
"...being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you
will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

Thanks Sunsong; very beautiful indeed.
Compare North Korea living in darkness, to South Korea thriving; the influence of Godly faith makes a difference in nations.

Ananias was very brave and had great faith to be the first to approach Paul.

You are most welcome!
Yes it is so sad what North Korea has become. The people there deserve better

Thanks for the explanation. Ananias could have been a common name. Just like Judas’s house where Saul was recuperating was not owned by the betrayer. That was a common enough name that there were even two among the Apostles.

How could we learn if Ananias and Judas were common 1st Century names?
thinking, thinking
I know! All we need to do is check their phonebooks.
No, that won't work after all. Phonebooks list last names alphabetically, and Ananias and Judas are first names.
Never mind.

You are very alert to make the Judas connection.
I suspect it would be profitable to make a study of biblical names. I presented a guest sermon once focusing on that.
So many include el, for God: Ezekiel, Gabriel, Michael, Daniel....
Of course, Yeshua, God saves, is the champeen.

The Romans were fairly thorough, and probably had such listings. But yeah, first names. You need some 1st century AI to analyze the data.
