A correlation between Blake and Chagall is a novel idea to me, Bob, especially as they’re both stylistically so unique. Of course, New Testament art by Chagall is rare indeed.
I love Chagall’s style quite a bit, as I do Blake’s style. Their styles are “simple” for sure compared to realistic artists, although they obviously had skill in color, tone, values, composition etc but the atmosphere in their paintings is what grabs my attention- it gives the paintings another dimension almost- something akin to viewing the spirit world I guess. Painting 2 in this thread really evoked that for me too showing a contrast between “the real world” and “the spirit world” in the painting.
